 LTR Information for Students

Lecture Theatre Recording is a system that facilitates the recording of lectures and events for delivery via the Internet. UQ is currently in the first stage of implementing the system with thirteen large lecture theatres across the campuses to be operational by Semester One, 2008. Lecture Recording will enable students to review and revise lectures by accessing the sound and screen content just as it was presented.

Initially, lecture recording facilities will be set up in all theatres seating 200 or more students, so will be available to key first year undergraduate subjects from 2008. In later years, it is expected that the system will be extended to smaller lecture venues to cover a wider range of classes.

With Lecture Theatre Recording, students can access lecture recordings over the Internet 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at their own convenience. Audio and visuals from traditional face-to-face lectures and events are automatically recorded and processed into a variety of streaming media formats.

The links to audio and visuals from recordings will be accessible from unit pages on Blackboard. Recordings are made available in a variety of formats (streaming, download, podcasting) and no special software is required to view recordings.

Students should be aware that there is an expectation that students attend lectures, tutorials and seminars for all classes in which they are enrolled. In cases where lecturers do provide recordings of lectures and other teaching materials on-line, this is intended to supplement rather than substitute for regular class attendance.
