 Lecture Theatre Recording at UQ

UQ is currently in the first stage of implementing a Lecture Theatre Recording (LTR) system on all three campuses. UQ has chosen the Lectopia product to facilitate the recording of lectures for delivery via the Internet.

From Semester One, 2008, large lecture theatres across the campuses (those with a capacity above 200 students) will be fitted with Lecture Recording systems to empower more flexible modes of teaching and learning at UQ.

With Lecture Theatre Recording, students can access lecture recordings over the Internet 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at their own convenience. Audio and the screen content on the data projector (e.g. Power Point slides) are recorded, processed and sent to BlackBoard in a variety of media formats. This makes it easy to review content covered in traditional face-to-face lectures using a PC or Media Player.

The recording process is simple using Lectopia. For venues installed with Lectopia, all that is required is for the lecturer or presenter to pre-book the subject for recording, then use the touch-screen control to start or pause the recording.

The links to audio and visuals from recordings can be automatically uploaded into unit pages on Blackboard. Recordings are made available in a variety of formats (streaming, download, podcast) and no special software is required to view recordings. Associated materials such as PowerPoint presentations and slides can be made available together with these recordings.

UQ Information

At UQ, Lectopia is installed in St Lucia lecture theatres with more than 200 seats as well as specific lecture theatres at Gatton, Herston and Ipswich (see the LTR Venues page for a full list), and will be used by many teaching and administrative areas across the campus.

Once booked, the recorded lectures are automatically made ready for viewing by students enrolled in the course via the BlackBoard eLearning system. More information for staff on how to book and use the system can be found under the menu choices on the right.

Students can access the recorded lectures next day using a variety of methods, either on campus or from home. Lectures can be viewed on a PC or downloaded to play on iPods and Media Players. Use the menu at right to learn more about the software you need to view or download lectures.

Further Information on the Lectopia system

Lectopia is licensed to over 50% of Australian universities, and this community of users is continuing to grow alongside the system's development. Further information about the Lectopia system and community of licensees can be found on the Lectopia website. Information on this site includes:
