What is the UQ Certificate Authority?

The University of Queensland Certificate Authority (CA) is operated by Information Technology Services (ITS). This CA is a self-signed authority which issues and signs certificates for certain University of Queensland web servers. The use of certificates enables data transferred between the user and the web server to be encrypted, protecting the privacy of the information whilst in transit. Additionally, applications (such as an email application) connecting to these servers know that they are actually communicating with the server intended, and not with some other server.

Do I need to install the UQ Certificate Authority?

It is highly recommended. If you do not then you may have difficulty accessing an increasing number of UQ central services.

How do I install the UQ Certificate Authority?

Below have instructions on how to download & install the UQ CA Certificate for popular web browsers.

NOTE: The Certificate Authority should be installed for EACH browser program that you use. That means if you use both Internet Explorer and Netscape/Mozilla, then you should follow these guides for both programs, as they store the Certificate Authority setup in different places.
