The UQ Mail project is an initiative of The University of Queensland Information Technology Policy and Planning Committee (ITSPP) to provide an official communication and collaboration system for electronic mail for the University community.
Organisational units may elect to use one of two different mail and calendar systems for staff, i.e.. a Sun based IMAP mail system, or the new Exchange MAPI system. To find out which system you are on please contact your IT support or the ITS HelpDesk.
Functionality includes:
- Normal mail delivery
- Mail delivery to lists
- Mail delivery to programs
- 200MB storage per user free of charge
- A choice of email clients, including Outlook
- Organisational unit level addresses as aliases to UQ addresses, e.g. joebloggs@uq.edu.au or joebloggs@physics.uq.edu.au both of which will reach joebloggs at his UQ Mail account.
- Mail filtering
- Virus scanning
- Away messages
- Mail forwarding
- Secure access to mail (SSL)
- UQ directory access (LDAP)
- Local administration including:
- Arbitrary email addresses
- Email lists
- A postmaster address
- Creation and administration of sub-domains
- Administration of "admin" group accounts for non-staff
If you do not have access to the UQ Mail system a migration procedure is available to affect a transfer to UQ Mail. If your work unit has a Service Level Agreement with Information Technology Services they may manage this process for you.
