Microsoft IT Certifications explained

In 2008 Microsoft introduced a range of new Certifications as seen on

http://www.microsoft.com/learning/mcp/mcitp/default.mspx

There is no MCSA or MCSE path for the 2008 server and it is anticipated the MCSA and MCSE certifications will be phased out as the 2003 server reaches the end of it product life over the next few years. To replace the old certification paths, Microsoft has introduced two new certification groups. These are:

• Microsoft Certified Technology Specialists (MCTS) - Entry level certification replacing the MCP
• Microsoft Certified Information Technology Professional (MCITP) - More Advanced level of the given topic area

In 2009  UQtrainIT  has scheduled sequences of courses for students to obtain Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) and the Microsoft Certified Information Technology Professional (MCITP) certifications.

Enrolments and Payments.

To enrol in single courses click on one of the Group Links below. Note there is a discount for up front fees for the MCITP Server Administrator Bundles. The MCITP Server Administrator Course Bundle cost $4620 including GST and Includes the 70-640, 70-642 and 70-646 Courses

The online enrolment system will generate an invoice for you and allow you to pay immediately with UQPay (credit card) or BPay. Online payment is optional and you can pay later but remember when you enrol online to keep a copy of your Invoice/CRN number for later payment.

For payment after enrolment, there are 3 choices:

• Online Payments - You can repeat your enrolment process and then once you get to create another invoice you can access the online payment options of ‘UQPay internet payment’ which is Credit Card or BPay. If you use this method, you would disregard the initial invoice.
   
• Phone Payments - If you already have an invoice, you can phone the ITS Customer Service Centre (Ph 33656000 option 3) and quoting your invoice number, you can pay by credit card over the phone.
   
• In person payments - You can visit the UQconnect Service Centre in the Student Union Complex (building 21). This is next to the Red Room, and downstairs from the Main refectory. There you can pay by Cash, Cheque, EFTPOS or Credit Card. Again you will need to quote the invoice number from the online enrolment system.

Enrolment Notes:

• Class times are not rigid and can be negotiated at the start of semester with the instructor having the final say.
• Classes will be cancelled if minimum enrolments are not achieved.
• FULL refunds of enrolment fees will be available if classes are cancelled.
• All Cancellations or Transfers will incur a $75 administration fee.
• NO Refund will be given after the first week of a course.
• Attendance and Participation in classes is required. Acceptable attendance is at least 60% of class time.
• Receipts should be kept as proof of payment. The course cost includes the provision of the text  resources. Enrolments for modules are completed when payment is received.
• Once your enrolment is completed, you will be sent a welcome email with details of how to prepare for the course. Pre-reading the curriculum is highly recommended.
• At the At the end of courses a formal assessment must be done at a Thomson Prometric Certified Testing Centre. Microsoft IT Academy Students are eligible for discounted exams for most IT Academy Program courses they have completed. Currently the discount exam vouchers cost $85 compared to the RRP $180

MOC or MOAC Texts and lab manuals for the above courses are provided at the start of each course. The texts below are additional reading. They are Optional and NOT required. Students may which to purchase additional texts and course materials as recommended by Microsoft below:-
